What I talk about here...
It's very easy to understand why in ourdays there're huge of pages offer you to download songs on-line in popular formats like MP3, RealAudio and MIDI. Cause nearly every one who has personal computer could listen to music sitting right beside it, and not turning on the Radio or CD player. So, I decided to place here the description of music formats and which should be used for defined purposes.
Why we listen to music via PC?
It's the question of technology progress. Now PC allows to play music with near CD quality using compression and saving more space on HDD. One CD could contain about 74 mins of music, but how much could your computer contain? Also we are the prisoners of CD compilation, but PC allows us to make playlists for special events - party, wedding, street festivals, etc. We don't need anymore to change CDs. Do you know what is to clean home dust from CDs on your shelves? Yep, music in computer frees your home from CD-holders and shelves.
Music formats
Some formats are made for playing sounds and some for playing songs. What's the difference? Sound fomrat means that the sound waves are written on your HDD, and every "bit" of that file describes the frequency and amplitude at the moment of playing time. Song format contains notes and instrument samples are writtem in sound format. For long playing compositions song format suits the best.
- There're not too many popular sound formats:
- RealAudio (uses compression / RA)
- MPEG 1 Layer 3 (uses compression / MP3)
- WAVE (could be uncompressed, has several ways of compression / WAV)
- Song formats:
- Scream Tracker (STM, ST3)
- Fast Tracker (XM)
- Impulse Tracker (IT)
- ProTracker or Amiga MOD (MOD)
- Musical Instrument Digital Interface or MIDI (MID)
Three my favorite songs of June-July '99

| Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca (scklon English/Spanish mix) | RA | 4:16 |
| The Offspring - Why Don't You Get a Job? | RA | 2:47 |
That's all.
